A futuristic and fully sustainable city rising out of the Thar Desert. It is designed to house one million people in clean, organised districts protected by a dome that takes care of the heat and the air.
Suryagarh means Sun Fort. It is a sustainable and well planned city located in India's Thar Desert. It runs on clean energy, pulls its own water from the air, grows food in vertical farms and sits inside a futuristic dome that controls the temperature and cleans the air. People in Suryagarh rarely need to leave their own district because everything they need is right there.
The name was chosen out of respect for the people who already live in the Thar Desert. The sun is both the biggest challenge the city faces since temperatures go above 50°C and also its biggest resource. Solar panels power every apartment and windmills supply the rest of the city's energy.
Cultural IdentityEach district is planned so that residents can find everything they need without leaving. Groceries, healthcare, schools, work and parks are all inside the district. This keeps traffic low and makes communities feel close and connected.
Everything Close ByThe whole city sits inside a futuristic climate dome. It cleans incoming air in an instant, controls the temperature and humidity using AI, and makes it possible for grass and trees to grow in the middle of a desert.
Signature TechnologyFrom traffic lights that read live vehicle flow to smart homes that turn off lights on their own, AI is built into daily life. Every district has a tech hub full of AI companies and startups, making Suryagarh a major centre for artificial intelligence.
Smart CityClose your eyes and imagine a desert. Now imagine a city there. Sounds difficult right? The Thar Desert has real and serious problems. But every single one of them has a solution built into Suryagarh.
Between 16 and 30 million people live in the Thar Desert region, but most of them are in rural areas with poor roads, no hospitals and very few schools. There is no city big enough for this population. Suryagarh fixes that by bringing real urban living to the desert.
16 to 30 million peopleClean water is very hard to find here. Most water sources are polluted and there are barely any rivers or lakes. Suryagarh solves this completely by using air compression to pull water straight out of the air. No rivers needed at all.
Air Compression WaterMining and digging up resources is the main industry in the area. This damages the environment and speeds up climate change. Suryagarh replaces all of that with remote tech work and AI jobs that do not harm the land.
Climate ImpactIndia already has bad air quality in most places, but the Thar Desert makes it even worse because of its heavy humidity. This makes the air feel thick and hard to breathe. The dome in Suryagarh cleans all incoming air before anyone breathes it.
Dome SolutionIn summer the temperature goes above 50 degrees Celsius. That puts anyone outside at serious risk of heatstroke. The dome keeps the inside of the city at a comfortable temperature chosen by the residents themselves through a vote.
50°C SummersThe Thar Desert has very little urban infrastructure right now. But it does have flat open land that is easy to build on, railways already running through it, and some of the best conditions for solar and wind energy in the entire country.
Hidden OpportunityThe gated community is the most important building block of Suryagarh. Every community has five tall apartment buildings with solar panels on the roof, a park in the middle, a walk in clinic and other basic things people need every day. All of this is enclosed so it feels safe and easy to get around.
Gated Community Layout — 5 Apartments Around a Central Park
Each apartment is 24 floors tall with 4 residents per floor. Solar panels on the roof store energy during the day for use at night.
Every apartment building has solar panels on the roof connected to a battery bank in the building. The sun charges it during the day and residents use that stored power at night. Each building runs entirely on its own energy with nothing wasted.
Rooftop SolarYou might wonder how you grow grass in a desert. The dome takes care of that. It controls the temperature and humidity inside the city so grass, trees and gardens can grow naturally just like in any other place on Earth.
Made Possible by the DomeThe gated walls are not about keeping people out. They create a safe space where kids can play outside and elderly residents can walk around without worry. The whole community is designed so neighbours actually know each other.
Community DesignEach district has 4 gated communities placed at the corners. In between them are regular detached houses with their own walk in clinic. Around the outside of the district you will find the schools, hospital, mall, emergency services and tech hub. A ring of trees goes all the way around the edge.
There are two high schools and two elementary schools in each district. One school sits next to the front pair of communities and one next to the back pair. Kids can walk to school completely inside their district. No buses needed. We also built Minecraft models of both schools to show their insides.
2 High Schools 2 Elementary SchoolsEvery district is completely surrounded by a ring of trees. The trees act as a barrier against sandstorms, clean the air, block noise between districts and mark the clear edge of each neighbourhood. They also help absorb carbon from the air over time.
Natural BoundaryTo hit a population of one million people, Suryagarh needs about 397 districts. Every 3 districts share a university, which means the city will have around 132 universities. That gives basically everyone in the city access to higher education.
Without the dome, Suryagarh simply cannot exist. It is the technology that makes a city in the Thar Desert not just possible but actually comfortable to live in. The dome cleans the air as it comes in, controls the temperature inside the city and lets residents vote on what temperature they want.
The dome covers the whole city. Inside is clean and cool. Outside is the desert.
Outside air full of dust and desert particles gets pulled through the dome and cleaned before it enters the city. By the time anyone breathes it, it is completely safe and fresh. The whole process happens so fast you would never even notice it.
Advanced FiltrationThe dome's AI can cool the city to whatever temperature the people want. Instead of a government just deciding, residents vote on it. This is a small but real example of equality and inclusion built right into the city.
AI Climate ControlWithout the dome, grass would never survive here. With it, every park in every gated community is green and healthy all year round. Trees grow. Ponds stay full. Gardens bloom. It really does not look like a desert inside.
Desert Made GreenThe Thar Desert has surprisingly heavy humidity at certain times of year which makes the air feel thick and uncomfortable. The dome balances this out so it always feels just right inside the city. Comfortable enough for people. Moist enough for plants.
Balanced ClimateThere are no rivers in the Thar Desert. No lakes either. Normal water systems just do not work here. Suryagarh creates all its water by compressing air. It sounds unusual but it actually works and some cities are already starting to use this method.
To feed one million people using regular farming you would need over 200 acres of land. That is way too much space for a desert city. So we chose vertical farms instead. They grow much more food in a much smaller area and they work in any weather.
Each floor of a vertical farm produces as much food as several normal farm fields. Stack 20 of those floors and the output is massive. And it uses way less land, no pesticides, 95% less water than regular farming, and it grows food every single day no matter what the weather is doing outside.
10 Times More EfficientAutomated sprinklers, watering systems and harvesting tools handle the routine work every day. But real human workers are still there to check quality, fix things and manage the farms. The farms create good, permanent jobs in the city.
People Plus AutomationThe crops do not need sunlight because LED lights inside the buildings give them exactly what they need to grow. Those lights run on the city's clean wind and solar energy. An AI system monitors every crop and adjusts the light and water automatically.
100% Clean Energy PoweredOur team built a Minecraft model of what the vertical farm looks like on the inside. You can see the growing floors, the water channels, the packaging area and the loading section where food gets sent out to the mega malls in each district.
Minecraft BuildSuryagarh produces no landfill at all. Instead all solid waste gets turned into useful things through a process called plasma gasification. It uses extreme heat to break waste down into its basic parts and then those parts become electricity and building material.
When waste gets broken down by plasma gasification it produces a clean gas called syngas. That gas goes straight into the city's power grid. So the more waste the city makes, the more electricity it actually creates from it. Nothing is wasted.
Waste to EnergyAfter the plasma process finishes there is a solid leftover material called slag. It is completely safe and in Suryagarh it gets turned into material used for roads and building foundations. Even the last bit of waste gets put to use.
Zero LandfillThe main way people get around Suryagarh is by hover car or hover bike. These float above two level roads and run on power from the city's wind and solar energy. All the traffic lights are managed by AI so traffic moves smoothly without any jams.
Fully electric hover cars that float above the road. They charge at outlets powered by the city's wind and solar grid. Made from parts that produce no carbon. Good for families and carrying things around the district.
Personal hover bikes for shorter trips. Each bike is locked to its owner using an access card. Only the registered owner can turn it on. Our team also built a hover bike model in Minecraft to show what it looks like.
The roads are built on two levels. The lower level is for walking and slower movement. The upper level is for hover vehicles. This keeps people on foot completely separate from vehicles so there are no accidents between them.
The traffic lights use AI sensors to see how many vehicles are waiting on each side of a crossing. If one side has nobody waiting it lets the other side go right away. No fixed timers. Traffic just flows as efficiently as possible at all times.
Footpaths, park entrances and community gates. No vehicles at this level at all.
Both road levels carry hover cars and hover bikes. AI manages every crossing. Charging points run on solar power along the roadside.
Water pipes from the air compression facilities. Power cables from windmills. Waste tubes leading to the plasma gasification plants.
Suryagarh runs entirely on clean energy that will never run out. Every big system in the city including water, air, farming and waste is powered by wind and solar. On top of that, smart homes and special materials make the city even more efficient.
Windmill farms outside the dome provide the main power supply during the day. The open flat plains of the Thar Desert make it a great place for windmills because the wind moves freely without being blocked. The power travels underground into the city.
Main Power SourceEvery apartment building has solar panels on the roof that charge a battery bank for use at night. There are also extra solar panel farms beyond the dome. The Thar Desert gets a huge amount of sunshine every year so these panels work very well.
Stored for Night UseThe homes in Suryagarh are connected to AI. Lights dim on their own when a room is empty. Heating adjusts based on how many people are home. The home learns your routine over time and organises itself around it. This cuts energy use by about 35%.
AI Energy SavingFor lighting in hallways, parks and public spaces, Suryagarh uses special fluorescent minerals that glow on their own without any electricity. They are polished and set into walls and floors. They can last for decades and cost nothing to run.
No Electricity NeededAll the buildings in Suryagarh are printed by large 3D construction robots. This way of building releases no dangerous chemicals into the air unlike traditional building methods. Prototype houses made this way already exist today and by 2056 this will be normal.
No Construction PollutionWind, solar and waste syngas from plasma gasification all feed into the city's power grid. So if a sandstorm shuts down the windmills, solar batteries and syngas keep things running. Three independent sources means the city never loses power.
Always OnMaking the city fair and welcoming for everyone was part of the plan from the very beginning. It was not something added on at the end. Every major group of residents has real and specific solutions built in for them.
| Group | Challenge | Suryagarh Solution |
|---|---|---|
| 👴 Seniors | Getting out to buy basic things is hard | Free delivery from any shop in the district right to their door. This is paid for through taxes from younger residents so older people are taken care of. |
| ♿ Disabled Residents | Moving between floors and getting into buildings | All apartment buildings have elevators. Students with disabilities are always placed on the ground floor at school. Since the detached houses have no elevators, disabled people get a discount on apartments. |
| 💰 Low Income Families | Affording housing while still having privacy | The detached houses have a special layout where two families can buy one home together. Each family still gets their own bedroom, kitchen and washroom. They share the house but keep their privacy. |
| 🌡 All Residents | Heat and bad air in the desert | The dome protects every single person equally. It does not matter if you are rich or poor. Everyone inside Suryagarh breathes the same clean and cool air. |
| 🗳 All Residents | Having a say in how the city is run | The temperature inside the dome is decided by a city wide vote from residents. It is a simple but meaningful example of democratic inclusion built into daily life. |
We believe remote work is becoming the future and Suryagarh is built around that idea. AI is the main driver of the economy here. Most tech hubs are home to AI startups or large AI companies that give residents access to great jobs without even leaving home.
Residents can work for any company anywhere in the world from their apartment. If they qualify for a job and pass the interview, that job is theirs. It does not matter if the company is in another district or another country. No commute needed at all.
Remote FirstMost of the tech hubs in Suryagarh are AI startups or companies that are already established in the AI industry. The city is built to become a major global centre for AI development. AI also handles simple tasks at home like cleaning so people can focus on bigger things.
AI HubAI traffic lights read how many vehicles are waiting at each crossing and decide who goes first based on real numbers. Smart home AI cuts down energy use. AI manages the vertical farms and the dome. It is not just in the tech hubs. It runs the whole city.
City Wide AI397 mega hospitals and 1,588 walk in clinics create a huge number of stable local jobs. Doctors, nurses, researchers and AI health technicians can all build careers right inside their own district without ever having to travel far for work.
About 120K jobsMaintaining the windmills, running the vertical farms, operating the plasma gasification plants, managing the air compression water facilities and keeping the dome working all create real and permanent jobs that cannot be moved somewhere else.
Local and Permanent397 mega malls each serve as the commercial heart of their district. Because people spend most of their time inside their own district, the mall always has a steady stream of customers nearby. Physical shopping works really well when your customers live five minutes away.
397 MallsBesides the big systems we have already talked about, Suryagarh also has a lot of cool technology built into everyday life. Some of it already exists in early form today and we expect all of it to be standard by 2056.
Small robots in every home handle the basic cleaning like vacuuming and mopping. This gives residents more time for work and family. The robots charge themselves from the building's solar battery system and dock on their own when they are done.
Home AutomationEvery hover bike is registered to one owner. It only turns on for that person using their access card. This completely removes the risk of theft. Our team also built a Minecraft model of a hover bike to show what they look like in practice.
No Theft PossibleFluorescent minerals that glow naturally are polished and put into walls, floors and public spaces throughout the city. They give off a soft light that needs zero electricity to run. They last for decades. It is one of the most unique features of Suryagarh.
Runs on NothingLarge construction robots print every building in the city layer by layer. No mixing concrete on site. No welding fumes. No chemical pollution during construction at all. Some prototype 3D printed houses already exist right now and by 2056 this will be the normal way to build.
Clean ConstructionEvery home in Suryagarh has an AI that watches how the space is used. Lights go off on their own when nobody is there. Heating adjusts before you even get home. The home figures out your schedule and works around it to save as much energy as possible.
Learns Your RoutineThe dome has a central AI that reads millions of readings about air quality, temperature, humidity and the structure itself every single second. It makes constant small adjustments to keep the whole city comfortable without anyone having to do it manually.
Always RunningEvery decision we made about where to build Suryagarh is supported by real geographic data about India and the Thar Desert.
Between 60 and 70 percent of India's people live in rural areas. For a country that big, that means there are not enough cities to go around. Suryagarh is built to fill that gap.
India's fertility rate shows that a large wave of young people is coming. Population pyramids confirm this. These young people will want modern and tech driven cities to live in. That is exactly what Suryagarh offers.
The Thar Desert is enormous but has very few people per square kilometre. Its wide flat plains mean building a city here does not require major changes to the landscape which keeps environmental damage low.
Train lines already run through the Thar Desert. This gives Suryagarh a direct connection to India's national rail network from day one without needing to build new rail infrastructure from scratch.
The Thar Desert is already home to some of India's largest solar and wind power projects. The flat open land and strong sunshine make it one of the best places on Earth to generate clean energy.
Compared to a forest or a wetland, the Thar Desert has relatively few animals. Building a city here causes far less damage to nature than clearing any other type of land would. It is one of the most responsible places we could have chosen.
Good planning means asking the hard questions before anyone else does.
No. The Thar Desert actually shows why. It is a huge area but it has a small population and not much development. Growth here is something that is needed. Population growth only becomes a problem when the infrastructure is not ready for it. In Suryagarh we build all the infrastructure first and then invite people in. The city also takes pressure off already overcrowded places like Mumbai and Delhi by giving people a new place to go.
We did not just imagine it. We designed it, ran the numbers and built it in Minecraft. This is Suryagarh. Sun Fort.
India's cities cannot keep up with how fast the population is growing. Too many people, not enough infrastructure, and millions of young people with no modern city to move to.
Build a city in the Thar Desert where there is space, sunshine and wind. Connect it to India's existing railways and fill it with everything a million people need to live well.
Every technology we are using either exists already or is on its way. Air compression water, vertical farms, plasma gasification, hover vehicles. All real. All testable. All coming by 2056.
